what is banding?  i've 'upgraded' my motors with an aluminum screen around them 
is that what you mean?

This is yet another reason to band your rotor. You don't know if a
rock got in there, but we *do* know that these motors can spit their
clips off. Note that if the clips come off by themselves, there's
little to be gained by keeping rocks out. Also realize that as high
as EMs are typically geared, a clip doesn't have to be jammed against
the case that hard to lock your wheel.

We have a known plausible failure mode with potentially grisly
consequences. Band your motor.

I suspect most electric motor shops could do it. If anyone is near

more friendly to the cause.
