The application looks good. Do you plan on data logging at all?
Besides the Palm all is needed is a serial cable, like the serial
cable used to sync the Palm and your software? In my next project I
could use something like this.

There is the Paktrakr device that runs under $200 can monitor the
batteries individually and with an optional shunt the current. I am
using it without the shunt option in my Honda VF, I have a large
analog panel ammeter hooked to a shunt for current readings which
works great.
