Why not just AJAXify your control? You could simply wrap up the existing functionality inside an Update Panel.

Have added this content-type field as one one displayed when in the edit mode of the page by adding it to the "EditModePanel" control in the layout. So far so good. Unfortunately, when a user then clicks the tree control to expand it, you get the "Saving page content...." message in the bottom of the browser window, and then the pop-up message "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?...." . I assume this is because the control is causing a postback, but he behviour is quite off-putting for the users, and I can't figure out how to prevent it. Any ideas?????
