Bill, Since sharepoint 2007 has been around since...well...2007, then I guess
writing a book about it now actually makes sense from your first point.

My gripe with MS is that the bleeding edge (infrastructure update) adds serious
things, while dropping some minor things as an afterthought. Should I cover the
minor things, even though they are gone? The built-in help in sharepoint still
covers them and refers to them...even though they are missing.

options:

1. Not write a book, it will be out of date BEFORE it's written (as a rule!)
unless you're writing it about SPS 2001. (i kid!)

2. ALWAYS write about bleeding edge (RC or higher). If it's been released
publicly that's what you cover without question.

As a side note, perhaps on your website have a "alternate book appendix" where
by you:
-have screenshots indexed by page or picture ID for old versions
-have screenshots indexed by page or picture ID for NEW versions

THat way I buy the book, and can read the text but look at the screenshots on
the web if I need to. Perhaps even offer them as PDF to print out, so that
ingenious people can tape the pictures over the old ones.

Grrrr. This is really putting me off, since I am writing a book about
sharepoint (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0672330504/heme0f)
and I want to add screenshots of how to use the picture library, and all my
servers have the infrastructure update. Also, what if I do install a server
without it, include screenshots, and everyone who buys the book is working on a
server with the infrastructure update? They will say my book sucks!

What do you think I should do?

Last I heard after I made that blog post about the issue, Microsoft still have
it on their to-do list. The fix wasn't included in the recent cumulative update
roll-up for August though. When they let that update out they did say that
hot-fixes would be coming every two months, which means we should be due for
one in the not all too distant future, but there is still no promises that the
next lot of updates will contain a fix either. Fingers crossed they come up
with something though.

Sorry,

Subject: [OzMOSS] Details, Thumbnails & Filmstrip Missing from Picture Library

Hi All,

The Details, Thumbnails & Filmstrip options have gone missing from a default
Picture Library under the All Pictures view. It appears to be a problem server
wide, yet we have only made a minor change to the Master Page to draw a line
down between the Nav and the content pane using inline style. I've been able to
create a list template and deploy it correctly to another server where it all
appears to display correctly. Does anybody have any idea's as to where I need
to look to get this to display properly ?

Cheers
