Yeah – I think that CodePlex is more for open projects. I think the scenario we are talking about here is for private inhouse projects with virtual teams. At Readify we kind of have our own virtualisation infrastructure (everyone is remote and VPNs in) – so for us this style of development is as natural (as possible).

It is still hard because the tools don’t always assume this mode of operation.

Hi All,

yep, another aussie signing up who has been trolling the blogs in recent months :) G'Day all.

Now to the main topic of this thead - Hosted TFS...

Not sure if this is the same thing, but what about CodePlex? I'm under the impression that site uses TFS behind the scenes. I was also under the impression that u can connect directly to your project using the Team Foundation Client.

Finally, i'm not sure if CodePlex is open to the public yet, or if CodePlex (as a possbile solution) was mentioned in this list.

How do I connect to the CodePlex TFS server?

Only project coordinators or developers have permissions on the CodePlex TFS server.  Connection instructions appear on the Source Code tab of your project when you're logged in.

What is the architecture of CodePlex?

Checked it out on Amazon site.

It seems pretty good to me:

You have complete control of your instances. You have root access to each one, and you can interact with them as you would any machine. Each instance predictably provides the equivalent of a system with a 1.7Ghz Xeon CPU, 1.75GB of RAM, 160GB of local disk, and 250Mb/s of network bandwidth.

See ya,

As of what I have heard about amazon service the virtual machine you get is really powerful and incredibly cheap (I don´t know yet how they even make money with S3, but whatever!).

I´ve been meaning to try it out but I´m overwhelmed with project BHAL as of now.

If you try it let us know :)

Would it allow me to run TFS tho? Most VPS setups are severely limited in terms of memory and cpu usage, especially those sitting on a shared parent server..seen it a few times in regards to VPS hosted servers and it's burned me a bit.

Or you could try the latest service from amazon in which you create a virtual machine available on the web. Really cool. :)

Hey guys,

I've been wondering if it would be possible to get hosted TFS? I know it integrates heavily with AD but I do remember (from the beta 1 installation that we tried out) that it's possible to have users connect remotely to it without being on the domain.

So, does anybody know of a host that'd be willing to do that? (other than getting a dedicated server of course).

Am seriously keen in trying it out, but since it's still in beta I wont drag it into the development team at work (can't risk it).
