Hi Jason, I would say the changeset is something worth investigating, the version field limit is a problem that we need to look into if we are to go down that path. We can use some other field like AssemblyDescription. For now I am just looking for the solution that will require the least change and I think I'm going to just override the labelling behaviour in my project file to do it manually instead of letting TFS do it for me.

Jason, One issue with this is that each segment in the version field is limited to 16-bits (i.e. 65536) so if your changeset number exceeds this then your build will fail. I read about the idea from Jeremy Miller and Richard Banks and it involves using the TFS changeset number as part of the assembly version number.
