Hi Lucinda,

My school uses a reading log and response forms for outside reading.
Students need to read 30 minutes per night and complete summaries or quote
sandwiches every two weeks on their outside reading. These are all placed
in the reading log.

All students by years end must show that they have read 25 book equivalents
(150 pages = 1 book equivalent.) Students also include texts they have read
in school across subject areas, summer reading, and nightly reading.

Our log and response forms can be found at

Does anyone use reading logs in their language arts classes to encourage
reading outside of class? What has been your experience with this? Any
suggestions? Thanks.
