Hello, I teach 7th grade English from Honors, to Advanced, to Basic and Below Basic. I do similar types of activities with the vocabulary from the literature books, and from various vocabulary programs such as Wordly Wise or the 504 Essential Words For my Basic and BB classes I google Images for the vocabulary and then print the pictures to go with the words. I enlarge them and mat them. Then I purchase business card magnets that can be cut up and are sticky so that they can be applied to the words (also enlarged) and the pictures. During the story, the words and pictures are on my magnetic white boards. Towards the end of the study I will mix the words and the pictures. When the students come in, they move them all around and back to their rightful places. After the story has been studied, the words and pictures are put up on our walls and becomes a part of the room for the remainder of the year. It seem to help my English learners as well as my low students.
