Perhaps we should compile a list of which packages are not yet
supporting GDAL 2.x to ease discussion?
Packages relying only on the C API don't need a change.

One of the reasons I'm a bit pushy for gdal 2 is that I's love to have
Xerial released with gdal 2, otherwise we will be stuck with the "old"
version in the LTS release. If I'm not mistaking, fedora is also
already using GDAL 2.
As far as I know, OTB is preparing a 5.2 release to support GDAL 2.x and
ZOO-Project is preparing for a 1.6.0 release too.
We can build those against GDAL 1.11.2 if it is really needed. The
library packages can coexist (but packages will have to be build in a
ppa without GDAL 2).

Kind Regards,
Johan
.

Cool, +1

Best,
Angelos
