Subject: [Liveaboard] Aluminum Fuel tanks

The aluminum Diesel tank in my 2000 Leopard 38 catamaran has developed a
leak, looks like in the bottom. Another sister ship had the same last year

in St Martin. I assume the fix is to weld a plate over the existing bottom.

Any cautions? Any particular grade of aluminum to use? Does anyone know of
a good welding shop near Albany or Troy NY?
I had heard that Aluminum was the preferred material for Diesel, why would I
have such an early failure? This tank has a lowered sump area with a quick
and easy water drain.
