Walt,
I am on the Texas coast for now but when we cruised from Ft. Lauderdale
to here, we plugged into shore power twice in 6 months (not really
needed), did not charge the house bank with the engine, and we don't
have a generator to supplement charging. We have four 75 watt Seimens
panels feeding a starter battery of 95AH and a house bank(traction lead
acid type) of 495AH. We have a self built box with refrigerator package
using about 20 to 25 amps a day, radio and lights on this bank. Only
after days of rain did we think about conserving energy. That said, I
will be adding a wind generator this season as we are about to make the
journey back to warmer weather/water.
