Not sure if this helps or not. A friend has an older Perkins, a 4-108 I
think. Not the same engine but similar conditions may apply. On the
opposite side of the engine from the dipstick is another hole that looks
like it might have been a dipstick or an oil changing apparatus.
Whatever was there or was supposed to be there is gone. There is a bit
of an oil leak from that. There is a plug that is supposed to fit there
but so far he has been unable to find it and the leak goes on. Is it
possible that you have a similar situation? If so, check with a Perkins
dealer and see if there is a ready made plug for it. Our friend's
Perkins dealer hasn't been too helpful. Supposition is that he will not
be in business much longer; but who knows. If that doesn't work, I'd
suggest fabricating something of a plug (a bolt) to fit the hole and
close it. Anyway, HTH.
