As long as the person is up front, as she has been, I see no problem. We
need all the help we can get. She puts in the effort and reaps the reward,
what's the problem?? SeaWalker.

Subject: Re: [Liveaboard] liveaboard communities

Here is the moderator's opinion...

I see no issue here. I would hope an author would gather data from all
possible sources, especially such an expert group as this. To write a
piece and purposely ignore the opinions and experiences of this type of
body of knowledge could be considered irresponsible. If the writer were
to accept posted data as their own and plagiarize with the intent to
benefit from the list, then I would object.

I think the intent of the list restrictions is to keep folks from using
the list to run their businesses, sell commercial products, or
activities like that. If the purpose of a post has the intent to solve
liveaboard issues, bring issues to the forum, gather data for the good
of our community, etc, I think it is serving the needs of the community
and benefits the list.

Even when it comes to products, I think there is room for discussion on
the list. For example, if Andina is thinking about marketing a product
that would benefit the community and asks us for our opinions of
features, I can't think of a better place to ask. But to advertise or
make false claims about the product to grow sales is not good. I am
responsible for the design and manufacture of a rugged computer line of
business and might be interested in discussing the environments that
cruisers might encounter or software that they might run. Would asking
a question about that be out of line? I wouldn't think so. But you
won't find me trying to sell them on the list. Posters have to know
their motives when posting and do the right thing. I hate censorship.
My belief is that you give folks some leeway and if they cannot do the
right thing, you unsubscribe them. We are a pretty smart group, we know
what is right and wrong.

Anyone care to comment?

Sam
