Personally, I wouldn't mix ss and galv in an anchor and rode system.
If you have good quality stainless it can work well underwater if there is no
galvanic issues. The problem is testing to see if the stainless is good. you
have to bet the boat.

Philip,
Thanks for sharing your experience.
We have kind of the reverse right now.
Sue and I on Angel Louise have been using the prior
owners 100 foot of stainless chain with a stainless
swivel on it attached to a Delta Fast Set anchor.
We had a smaller gypsy on the windlass (an older
hand cranked manual SeaTiger) as the stainless
chain is 3/8ths BBB, which takes a smaller link
than the full size 3/8ths chain we had on our prior
boat, ENJOUE. We think we should change and
found a guy in England who sells parts to the old
Simpson Lawrence Sea Tiger's and will soon
receive the larger gypsy.
We planned to switch to a longer 3/8s ACCO galvanized
chain (180') hooked directly to a 66 lb SPADE anchor.
Do you think will be OK with no swivel in there? Any
suggestions? We do not want to use the current heavy
stainless swivel.

figure galvanizing, steel and stainless do not mix well.
