If it is building up pressure in the antifreeze (I assume that it is Fresh
Water Cooling) then there is a possibility of a bad head gasket, or crack in
head or block. The white smoke would be from water/antifreeze entering the
cylinders. Take a good look at the oil, antifreeze there causes rapid engine
destruction.

Subject: [Liveaboard] macau trip, and engine problem tips needed

belated merry christmas to ya'll from joseph in hong kong, but not too
late for happy new year, ha?

haven't had time to check into this group of late, and when i do, wow,
the format is all changed and unrecognizable. and i wonder if i reply in the
usual way, would my message go through somehow...

and not much time for sailing either. winter winds in hong kong are
fickle, unless they are the real strong northerly trades, otherwise it is fresh
in the morning, but drops to almost a standstill beofre noon and stays that way
till 4 pm...

still, did take time off and sailed from hong kong to macau and back.
the two places are separated by the very wide pearl river estuary, and took
about 10 hours each way. got almost grounded while leaving macau harbour on way
back, but really just scraped the bottom a few times and got away with it.

question: engine giving out white smoke, sounds not quite smooth, and
about 10 degrees of overheating (to 90 degrees, up from the normal 80), all at
1700 rpm. mine is a 50 hp yanmar. could anyone suggest what i should be looking
at?

I subscribe to yachtworld's notification service about M46x for sale.
Recently one came in that might be interesting to a project-seeker:
YW# 75191-2013025

Minor hurricane damage, when I look at that boat I realize that we'd
done more than all that was mentioned as trouble with this boat in the
course of our refit - and then had a wreck.

Stated price 35K, "reasonable offer" encouraged. Looks like the
owner
was doing a refit when the hurricane hit. If I were bored, or somehow
prevented from cruising while Lydia had to do something for a couple
of years, I'd jump on this in a heartbeat, cuz from the frank
descriptions of condition, I think it's an easy job (meaning not
technically challenging, and primarily either refit or cosmetics).

There's no stouter boat in the world, I don't think, and if you
haven't followed my history, a glance at the gallery in my signature
line will show you what I mean :{))

I had no idea this was still a subject. I respond
so infrequently yet the topic remains. I get your
points.

But obviously my email client doesn't. I am set to plain text every single
time I respond to this list. The problem is not ignorance but more likely
that I'm using a Mercedes email client for a Yugo list. Overkill.
Admittedly
it's killing me too because it should work properly but does not. Not sure
why this was never an issue prior to coming to this list. Go figure. No,
please don't. LOL

This email is in plain text as my email client interprets such. I have not
hit REPLY but put together a brand new email... so that's not it either.
Yet
I now too see bold type but cannot change it (no choices when set on plain
text).
My default can be either plain text or rich text.
I even went into advanced settings and switched
the default to plain text and still nada.

Incredimail has been known for having some of these type problems. It just
hadn't happened to me (knowingly) in the five years I've been using it.

Sorry for any inconvenience Mateys. A boldface type, extra lines, or
whatever it is that irritates your Christmas stockings.

I'll see what I can figure out as it is a problem.
No help needed, so thanks but no thanks... I just haven't had the time to
really pay much attention to it in the prior months but will at some later
date.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season
and can now move their reindeer forward.

Hugs,

Charmaine

That is an issue many folks don't understand, it seems. Any thing other
than
plain text will add a whole bunch of extra data to the message. Charmaine's
response (in bold with rich text formatting) is an excellent example of the
type of technical ignorance we're talking
about here. It's not the list server that's the problem - it's
individual's not understanding their mail clients and the data they're
propagating.

Recognizing that some on the list are cruising, and therefore have limited
data access is a kindness we should all embrace, IMHO. To send this message
plain text" I need to go to my Mail Application and tell it to do so
(default is Rich Text). Unfortunately if someone is using a webmail client,
they might not have that option.
