I do not have any Linux on this computer yet so I don't have a .config file. Although when the LiveCD runs, It finds the hard disk partitons correctly as /dev/sda{1,,4}.

Understood. Then please post the output of "lspci -n" instead of the relevant .config line. The question about the CD-ROM device nodes still stands.

Hi, unfortunately I can't cut & paste the output of lspci -n and save it anywhere after rebooting from the LiveCD. I tried mounting one of the windows partitions but as they are NTFS I was only allowed to mount them read only... (I'm sure on my other machine I count mount NTFS rw?)

I have written the output of lspci to a log file but from Windows I can't read EXT3 partitons... I'll get round to it.

Anyway, the CDROMS are found by the kernal as just:

/dev/hda LiveCD self-discovery works
/dev/hdb LiveCD self-discovery fails.

Note there is no number after the hd{a,b} and yet my BIOS refers to them as being Master and Slave respectively...

Hope this helps for now.

Cheers

Alan
