Is it possible to compile a LFS-x86_64 using that kernel, then?
No, because it doesn't exist. The only variant of LFS that provides
x86_64 support is CLFS (either pure64, which installs only 64-bit
programs and libraries, or mulitlib, that installs both 32-bit and
64-bit programs and libraries). 32-bit support is required if you want
to use proprietary things like Mplayer codecs.
Adding a 64-bit kernel to the CD would allow you to use the simpler
"chroot" scenario in the CLFS book (both pure64 and multilib) instead of
the "boot" scenario.
BTW, your x86_64 questions, while being certainly valid for this list,
may be answered better on CLFS lists, because people there actually
attempted to use the LiveCD for building CLFS.
