There's this thing called pinning:

Manual install might work with a little luck:
- First install the Ubuntu-built version of LMMS to get the dependencies
- Search for LMMS in your chosen PPA, and end up on a page like this:
https://launchpad.net/~dns/+archive/sound/+packages?field.name_filter=lmms
- Click on the suitable package, and you'll get links to download  
.debs for various architectures.
- Download .deb, say "sudo dpkg -i lmms_etcetera.deb"
