I never understood why. You can give the instrument a name in the Song
Editor, I think that is what is called the preset name.

However, when you save presets you also specify a file name?? Or why isn't
the file name the same as the preset name (automatically). When you browse
presets LMMS uses the file name, and when you drag the preset in, it again
makes use of the preset name... 

That's pretty annoying, don't you think? I can understand that you want to
save the preset with another name, and you don't want to change the name of
the instrument in the current song to do so, but I think very few of us like
that the preset then remembers the preset name in addition to the file name.
