Sorry to put it this way, but it's not our place to train people on a new
OS. There are much better places for this. We don't do it for Apple or
Windows do we?
Furthermore, the reason these packages don't work or aren't installing are
unrelated to the "packs will work". Linux distributes it's software in a
much easier and trustworthy fashion than Windows or Apple (Arguably, the
proprietary app stores are pretty secure, but people don't use them much
for desktop software yet). If you booted Ubuntu once in your life you
would realize how preposterous this statement is. :)
If some kind og consensus could be agreed on:

We really do, but what you don't understand is that these text editors are
built-in to the OS. You can right click and edit any source file and it
will be easy to read in gedit/kate/vi/nano. Windows and Mac don't come
bundled with an editor so people may not be familiar with this, but he's
not even at the point of editing code yet (and if he's a developer he
shoudn't need help with finding an editor!)

We have plenty of areas on our forums where this discussion is welcome. We
already have too many sections given the traffic we get, so if you want a
dedicated section, we should probably shuffle another item around first.
But @musikBear... Perhaps you should read our wiki and make recommendations
to it. I've asked you several times to setup a VM instance!
Your post doesn't help his questions at all. The coulda-woulda-shouda's
don't get him any further to his goals. Download Ubuntu and try our
tutorial. That would be the biggest help!
