At this point, I think the problems are well beyond LMMS ... first hit a general Ubuntu board (askubuntu is the official one, and they're a very helpful bunch), and once you have a well-behaving system, then try building LMMS on it and things should go smoothly :-)
(I routinely build LMMS on Xubuntu 14.04 and haven't had anything like this much trouble. The greatest annoyance I had was finding the name for the FLTK dev libraries so I could build ZynAddSubFX.)
