I'm planning to contribute soon. But I've been saying that to myself since last July. I planned for a re-write of the extension stuff over Christmas break. But now it doesn't look like I'll have one due to a couple of recent crit-sits I got sucked in to.
I really like this project and the people in it. But whatever few hours I do have on a weekend for log4j is easily absorbed catching up on the User Mailing List (40 - 60 messages) that's waiting for me each weekend when I get home. With work and another new kid to take care of, I really don't have time to be a productive member of the team. Besides, there is nothing preventing me from re-doing the extensions and contributing as a non-committer. I was a non-committer when I did the first one. So I won't feel offended if my status is revoked. At a later time, if I become exceptionally active, we can always vote to let me back in again. I'll have to look at chainsaw more carefully. There is also the http://sourceforge.net/projects/lumbermill/ project. It is not right for log4j to favor one opensource extension over another. As a side note, let me remind you that committers who are not active for over 6 months lose their committer rights. I would like to ask those committers who have not contributed to log4j in the recent months nor plan to do so in the near future to come forward and voluntarily give up their rights.
