While /etc/profile - the system-wide login file - seems pretty constant,
the system-wide bashrc file is somewhat itinerant. For example, Caldera
puts it in /etc/config.d/shells/. It's easy to move around because it's
simply sourced in the user's .bashrc file. Caldera also supports
/etc/config.d/shells/profile, which gets sourced at the end of ~/.bashrc to
do some global stuff at the end of the login process (e.g. I use it run
fortune).
I think you can count on /etc/profile being there, and I know you can count
on ~/.bash_profile and ~/.bashrc, as well as .bash_logout, which everyone
forgets. <g>
