That's another point of having the year appended to the certification.

If you're applying to, say LPIC-2/2005 in 2006 and LPI launches LPIC-2/2007
just before you take the 2nd exam, we should have:

- LPIC-2/2005 exams concurring with LPIC-2/2007. I don't see any problem here
- LPIC-2/2005 is still a valid certification, despite being a bit
outdated. No fundamental
   problem here. After all, it's 2006 and you've got that you paid
and applied for.

As discussed before, you could also take a simpler/cheaper exam and get a
certification "upgrade" to LPIC-2/2007.
