Given the popularity of MySQL on Linux servers, I could see an
argument for basic sysadmin of MySQL.  If anything it will add more
questions to the exam pool.  So I can't argue there.

I also agreed with your other comment that it doesn't hurt to add
(and numerically tag) a new objective, even if it doesn't make the
cut into objectives.  In fact, you could keep a section on the LPI
around for "objectives not in the [current] exam, but open for
consideration as 'foundational' Linux sysadmin" in future
developments.

But at the same time, if you're going to argue MySQL, you'll hear me
start harping on the Automounter.  ;)  And when people say the
Automounter isn't important, every traditional Solaris admin rolls
their eyes and then exclaim, "See, most Linux sysadmins don't care
about enterprise file access!"
