Hi,

I tried some of the suggestions but I think that the main
improvement comes from changing

  connect_timeout=10 ---> connect_timeout=60

in lpd.conf. My timeouts were all occuring 10 seconds
after initiating the job so I increased the number. We
have had many fewer problems today.

I won't know for sure until there is a chance to slowly
decrease the number and see where it really causes problems.

I am curious about the choice of default. Does having to
increase it indicate that delays on our network are larger
than expected?

I also increased the jetdirect card's "Idle Timeout" to a larger
number.

Any further advice on this topic is appreciated.

thanks,
Stuart
