I have windows clients printing to lprng on a Solaris box without using Samba. I am able to do this by installing unix print services for windows (or something similar to this name.) By doing so, you cannot browse printers through network neighborhood but you can set them up just as you would a unix printer, using hostname or ip and port then they are available under the printers menu.
