Quite sure. As a test I did stop the daemon on my host and at exactly the
same time the messages in the syslog of the print server stopped. They
reappeared as soon as I issued /etc/init.d/lpd start.

Well, I can't be sure 100%, but there's no other active process that I
can think of that would do that on this system. Nothing like samba or
such a beast. As a matter of fact the only thing running next to lpd
during my tests was sshd. I also did check if there was something in the
queue possibly causing it, but according to lpq -a the queue was empty.
Another thing I tried just to be sure was to remove lprng (using apt-get
remove --purge lprng). After that I reinstalled it and voila there is
was again.

Well, I am running Sarge (testing) and am currently holding back on
upgrading. At the moment I am not feeling adventurous enough to go for
the libc upgrade. I'll wait and if there don't seem too many problems
I'll go for it. Sid is too much of a risk for me right now, as I
wouldn't have the time to fix things if they broke in a worse than
trivial way.

Yep.
