this thread got me interested again in solving this problem.  I
couldn't find v 3.7.9 so I tried the latest, v 3.8.24 on a whim.

Didn't solve the problem, so I tried the netatalk approach.  This
worked, but not perfectly.  Sometimes it hangs the printer.  Only
works on the mos9 end if the printer is set up with the chooser, not
with the desktop printer wizard.

I think setting up lprng to print without spooling might work but it
was 5:30am by the time I got netatalk working, so didn't try that.
