Here is a follow-up to my original post on this printer. If anyone else is
looking to put these on your network, you may want to do as I did. The
problem was in the 3450 print driver. It would not print through a standard
TCP/IP port configured to print LPR to a remote print queue on Win2K or
WinXP. It just gave an error right away. I talked with Xerox and they
referred me to a different printer driver. The name of the file they gave me
was win2kms.exe. This was a more generic print driver. I tried it but it
still didn't work. What I had to do was first delete the printer, then go
into the server properties of the computer and delete the driver. Then I
could re-add the printer with the new driver and it worked.

Hopefully this may spare someone from the pains of this printer. It is
really a pretty nice, low cost, duplex printer. I think the alternate print
driver they gave me will work on a number of different Xerox printers as
well. If you have trouble, you may try that win2kms.exe print driver and see
if you can find your printer in there.

Subject: LPRng: Xerox Phaser 3450 DN

I have a Xerox Phaser 3450 DN I just added to the network. It has a duplex
unit (D). I am having a strange problem that has stumped me. Maybe someone
has an idea. I can print to it from the server using the lpr command. I can
print to it from clients using Samba. However, I cannot print to it using
TCP/IP port configured to send lpr from Windows 2000 or XP. The print job
shows up as error. I am using the postscript drivers from Xerox. I have
LPRng 3.8.22-2. I have tried setting the printcap to print to the printers
LPD port and port 9100. Neither works. I have nearly 150 queues on this
server and they all work except this one. Does anyone have any ideas on
this? Thanks!
