My LTSP "server" is a P3/550 MHz with 768 Mb of RAM and a 4 Gb IDE hard disc. It runs IceWM on top of SuSE 7.1 and serves an average of 8-10 out of 16 terminals with a 486DX4/100 or a P1/?? processor. > "server" and workstations run amazingly well. It helps to speed up Internet traffic, even on our permanent broadband connection. But we use a dedicated P3 box running Gentoo Linux. All of which was installed by a brilliant student of mine in order to discover the pro's and cons of also re-configuring our LTSP "server" with Gentoo. So far, we haven't decided on that matter yet. Mainly because our LTSP is operational on a daily basis and we have to find a way to convert it "over the weekend". ;-) Thank you for the referencing links.
