This looks - if it only client-dependant - like an etherboot-problem.
Please check your server config first - as A.J.Venter suggests. If the
problem persists, you could report it on the etherboot-users list.
Some necessary dates to be given (in rough order):
- Etherboot version
- Is the error recoverable? Exact output?
- Network card type
- Options specified when compiling/downloading from romomatic
- Cabling type (Switch, hub) - there are problems with certain
switches
- ???

We have several 486er with 24M each, they don't NFS-swap (no
local-apps of course), users a happy. Speed is sometimes a bit sluggy
- they are only networked with 10MBit BNC, which cannot be changed.
It's definitively the network, as only 1 client works fine; loading
20MB via that wire to a win3.11 box slows down everything.

On Debian, /var/log/daemon.log sometimes contains information too.
That said, you could try to play with NFS-v3(?)-support - switch
on/off. That helped us long time ago. Well, I was a beginner then! And
am no NFS pro today.
