have not tried this, though i do have the workstation on runlevel3 and run the X server manually to test the mouse. do i just have to type insmod serial.o at a root shell, and then manually start X? > 2) It has been a long time since I've used a serial mouse but is the > proper config option "Serial" or "serial?"
