+1 for Jim's suggestion. For 32 bit Ubuntu one of the easiest ways to
get non-GPL's things working (including flash java etc) if to google
for easyubuntu and use the python script from there. Turns whole thing
to matter of few clicks and a little patience for downloads to
complete :-)

64 bit is still a problem for flash. Something I read at slashdot
implied that new version from macromedia is in works in time for vista
release and that will be available for Linux too. Active work is going
on this. Maybe google can be helpful for curious. So a few more months
and 64bit will also "flash by.." (pun intended!)
