James,

Are you trying to solve a particular problem, or just ranting in general?

Certainly the LTSP-5 that people are currently using is full of
Ubuntu-isms (and debian-isms). It's because they did much of the work
to get LTSP-5 out the door.

If you don't like the way it works in Ubuntu, then maybe Fedora's
implementation will be more comfortable for you. It's not shipping yet,
because they were a bit late getting onboard. But, it's happening now
and the next release of Fedora will have an awesome implementation of
LTSP-5. Certainly, you can expect it to be full of Fedora-isms.

If you are Suse guy, the Opensuse developers have also been working on
LTSP-5 integration. There's been lots of postings to the ltsp-developer
mailing list and the #ltsp IRC channel about their progress.

So, what problem are you trying to solve? Maybe we can shed some light
on how to solve it.
