Just switched client (another IBM Thinkpad), same thing.
Noticed that during boot, the client says:
loading keymap: failed
Now, I'll try your x modifs, wait a sec, just done them...:
- this left my entire (client) screen flashing once a second, showing
the console on/off.
- still it complains about the keymap "cannot find us keymap".
Any good ideas.., a log file that I can attach perhaps?
