Experts, I am testing ltsp's RDP capabilities with hopes to substitute PXE booting on HP thin clients that currently boot from slow local flash. I have done standard ltsp deployments in the past that just worked without too much fuss, so I'm at something of a loss that things aren't working out this time around. I would appreciate some hints.
Fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04 x86_64 from alternate CD onto ESXi server. did: apt-get dist-upgrade did: ltsp-build-image --arch=i386 did: apt-get install open-vm-toolkit (supposed to install open-source vmware-tools with GUI, but haven't seen the utility yet) Without creating /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/lts.conf a client is able to pxeboot to ldm login screen, however when I attempt to log in with a valid account, the prompt says "verifying user name and password" for 20 seconds or so and then the ldm screen reloads. Not good, but then I'm not planning to use a linux login on this system anyway. So I create lts.conf thus: [default] SCREEN_07=rdesktop RDP_SERVER=fvtc001 and reboot the tc. The Ubuntu splash screen comes up and the progress bar completes. the screen flashes to black, and when the login screen should appear I see nothing but shades of black, as if the screen is changing modes. After 30 minutes or so the screen is still black but has not gone into power-saver mode. I added the following line into lts.conf, which is copied directly from a flash-booted thin client that is connected: RDP_OPTIONS="-dGPRC -f -a24 -rsound:local -ken-us -z -rdisk:usbdev /media/usb0 fvtc001" but no difference. I logged into the server console and used alt-F2 to run "rdesktop fvtc001" and I get my Vista login screen, so it appears the network is in order and the rdesktop package is compatible. I enabled remote syslogging on the server, but I don't see anything looking like an error coming from the tc. Oddly though, messages that appear to be boot messages continue to enter into the syslog for several minutes after the black screen appears. I enable ssh in the image and rebooted.
