Mike, a script such as this in your /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ directory
might do the trick:

DISPLAY_SOURCE=$(echo $DISPLAY|cut -d: -f1)
if [ -n "${DISPLAY_SOURCE}" ] && [ "${DISPLAY_SOURCE}" != "localhost" ] && [ -z
"${LTSP_CLIENT}" ]; then
    export PULSE_SERVER=tcp:${DISPLAY_SOURCE}:4713
fi
