I wasn't saying it was a bad idea, actually - I think if it helps the cause, then it's worth a thought. A good example is JINX in South Africa, which has been hosted by Internet Solutions for the past several years, and recently won the ISPA (.za's ISP association) "tender" to continue hosting the JINX for the period 2006 - 2009, over the bid from SAIX (Telkom SA). One of the reasons ISPA chose I.S. is that members running links to the JINX pay a much lower cost than if they ran them to SAIX. In addition, I.S. pay ISPA for the priviledge of hosting the exchange point, as well as membership fees for the JINX. If I'm not mistaken, I think it's about ZAR40,000/month, can't be sure - Ernest can reconfirm for us. Basically, the model can work... Mark.
