Although ATI has proprietary drivers for that chip Native linux
support is provided by the radeon driver (handles lots of other ATI
display chips too) with does not provide some of the features of the
ATI driver i could however not get the ATI drivers to work on my

Try booting in runlevel 3 as default then from there use the x
configuration tool provided system-config-display or
redhat-config-display depending of if u installed legacy RH or FCX.

The system should then try probing your hardware and set it up if that
fails the log will show why it has failed you can the hack the x
configuration file and test using startx from with in text mode.

The crutial thing is to see what the x server is logging as the error
making it fail to start from that troubleshooting is much easier.
