why not boot with a live cd like knoppix jsust so you can rip the parameters
it has autodetected ie the xorg.conf file
then install your redhat without x, and tweak its xorg.conf file by pasting
the parameters knoppix discovered
(if you are not using xorg then the file should be soething like
xfree86.conf)
particular attention should be given to resolution, modeline statemets,
horizontral refresh rate and vertical sync values.
that whjy i like distros like slackware and arch linus
you get to do most things under the hood ;-)

Andrew,
Being Brave I tried the text mode. This completed successfully, but the
most annoying bit was that once the system booted comfortably, the system
couldn't start the GUI nor allow me to use "Cntrl+Alt+F"keys. I just had
to go back to the "next-next" OS after five failed installation. I even
tried SuSE 10.0 and 9.1 without any sucess, though I would have preferred
the FC4 I had at the time. The windows installation shows ATI Radeon
Mobility 9000.
works on the d600 here.Suse 10,ubuntu and fc4.
