Actually, 4GB is overkill. I have 2GB on my MacBook, and it 
runs beautifully.

I can either run X11 or VMWare Fusion. VMWare Fusion is far 
more stable. And as I realised, a full Linux OS provided 
far more stability with regard to the 'kdepim3' package 
than running only KDE under X11.

The memory footprint with VMWare Fusion is negligible and 
causes no problems. 

VMWare Fusion also provides a clean interface between my 
file system on Mac OS X and the one under Linux on the 
virtual machine. KDE under X11 on Mac OS X botches this 
badly.
