the only thing the g1 brings is open-source. The problem in the states is the consumers never forget. If you release a crap product, it gets tainted and all future releases are met with skepticism.
Take the iphone for example. It has a lot of things that could be done better. But since the initial release blew people away, the consumers feel like they can look past what I consider obvious flaws. The other example is windows vista, which anyone who has used it extensively will say is a very good product (I use it on my work pc). But because the initial release completely bombed for various reasons. MS is forced to spend $200 million on advertising campaign to correct the general impression as well as focus on the release of windows 7 next year to try and recover Sanga M.
