I have gotten numerous emails (some being very smug) from people about this story

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/240255/apple-recommends-security-software-for-mac-owners.html
and this one http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7760344.stm
and the Slashdot article http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/12/02/1314208

This makes no sense
If the webpages are vulnerable to some security holes those holes are in the browsers and those are usually patched in short order by Firefox or whatever browser.

Secondly windows is prone to viruses because it runs certain files without asking (e.g. autorun.inf which usually starts CD/DVD or Flashdisk software). So name your virus autorun.inf and windows will run it and spread it. This is not true for OS X.

Also if its true for macs (that you need an antivirus) its true for linux. On linux systems I do have antivirus programs (usually two installed) on the mail servers and that is because I use them to clean WINDOWS viruses from email files

Lastly, apple took down the page so it can't be important
