Like you mention and has has been vindicated by the rise in stock, leaving
China itself can be be a plus for Google. The confidence that now many other
people have that google will not succumb to pressure can and will  give them
more business from the rest of the world as well Chinese outside the country
and those who can traverse firewalls from the inside :-).

Life is the educators practical joke in which you spend the first half
learning, and the second half learning that everything you learned in the first
was wrong.

They actually can , Less than 2 percent of Google’s $21.8 billion in
revenue came from China last year, according to Jefferies & Co. Google
rose $2.76 to $589.85 yesterday on the Nasdaq Stock Market. The stock has
almost doubled in the past year.

You have to cultivate good relationships with the government, so i we
would therefore assume Google is not really making so much money in china
and can therefore leave it or do what they want.
