that is showing traffic from Datanet <> Orange is passing via Londen & Paris. 
That is a long way.

lets open a ticket with Datanet and orange off-list.

(and not a reason why you would not be able to resolve (with e) the 
ubuntu.mountbatten.net server. There is a secondary DNS server in the US for 
that domain.)

It also doesnt explain why the initial download (without the use of 
ubuntu.mountbatten.net) also failed.
