If you could kindly keep us (or me directly) in the loop regarding
2.6.18patches it would be much appreciated.

Will do. But it looks like you can't expect anything real soon. There's some
activity happening on that front (see cfs bug #11039) but it doesn't look like
it's ready for prime time yet. There's a chance that in the next few weeks I
may end up diving back in and trying to come up with a version of that stuff
which works. But I think that's unlikely.

For 1.6, you also might want to look at https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11675 that seems to solve a few problems.

Trying to build 1.4.9 on debian etch here.

OK. You might want to have a look at debian packaging of lustre 1.6, I found it at svn://alioth.debian.org/svn/pkg-lustre ... It should be relatively easy to adapt for 1.4 ...

I'm currently playing with using the Debian 2.6.18 kernel with the above patches on servers and running the Ubuntu 2.6.15-server kernels with the patchless client on computing nodes, all machines running Ubuntu Dapper. Stuff builds, runs, and I can create a file and run bonnie, so it's not totally broken ;)
