Thanks.  Sounds plausible enough to me.  Perhaps
some "swollen shut" effect on the outlet ducts of 
the sweat glands, or fatigue effect on the heat
sensors.

When hands are cold and stiff (as from walking
gloveless in December), water will warm them 
up _very_ quickly and thoroughly.

I use a bowl and sink.  Once the bowl is full, I turn
off the cold water and leave a small stream of hot
water running.  

Then, while my hands are warming, I move the bowl 
in and out of the stream, as needed, to keep the bowl's water at 
the maximum comfortable tempature.  You can move the bowl 
without removing your hands from the water.

I use the time for finger exercises (twirling each
finger clockwise and then counter-clockwise).
