I'm not a member, but I occasionally play at SCA dance events (mainly on
serpent or cittern) and they are indeed good humored folks ("recreating the
Middle Ages as they should have been"...). However, the degree to which they
are dedicated to historically informed music is variable at best. I know
some SCA musicians that are well-informed competent early musicians, at
least an amateur level. Others don't see any problem with mixing modern
guitars or Celtic harps in with the recorders and what have you. In other
words, they are friendly well-meaning folks, and the events can be
entertaining, especially if you like playing around in costume, but best not
to expect too much in terms of musical authenticity.Guy -----Original Message----- From: Peter Martin [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Sunday, April 20, 2008 1:38 AM To: Lute list Subject: [LUTE] Re: Mille Ducas Dear Ray Thanks for the clarification. I had thought from your initial comment that the missing lute parts for the Dowland lute songs etc. might be elsewhere on the site, but clearly they're not. The "Lute" part that you cite for Go from my Window bears little resemblance to Morley's original. It has been heavily rewritten and drastically simplified. The other two pieces are arrangements for four instruments of lute solos. If that's all there is, then you may feel that my remarks were unfair to the SCA, which appears to be a good-humoured organisation which is regarded with affection by many people on this list, but they were not inaccurate. Perhaps I'm just too much a lute partisan. P On 20/04/2008, William Brohinsky <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > No problem.
