Easy using software like photoshop, same proceedure is used to measure leaf surface area and estimate damage to brain coral as seen in tomographic slices. take a digital photo which focuses on the rose and includes a rule - best to have no strings on. Open the photo in photoshop, establish the actual size of a 'pixel' and setup an excel spread sheet to scale pixels to cm. Convert photo to greyscale and manipulate levels so you have only black/white pixels.
